Highly Qualified Teaching Staff Maestros Altamente Calificados Title I schools must have teachers and teacher assistants that are highly qualified. To be highly qualified, teachers must be licensed by the state, be fully certified, and be able to demonstrate competence in the subjects they teach. Parents Right-to-Know Derecho a Saber de los Padres Parents may request information about the professional qualifications of their child’s teachers. Parents will receive notice if a student is taught for 4 or more consecutive weeks by a teacher that is not highly-qualified. Waivers to the NCLB Law Excenciones a la Ley NCLB North Carolina submitted a request to waive some provisions of the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) law. US Department of Education approved the request on May 29, The waivers allow school districts more flexibility in helping students to meet higher achievement standards. Key Changes Cambios Claves Schools are no longer measured on Adequate Yearly Progress. Schools are no longer identified with a “School Improvement” status.
