2 1. –AR verbs 2. –ER verbs and 3. –IR verbs In Spanish there are 3 classes of verbs: As a matter of fact, every single verb that exists in Spanish ends in an “r”!

3 But, before we get started, what is an infinitive in English? We will start first with the –AR VERBS. After you have mastered these, the others will be easier to learn. An infinitive is the verb including the word “to”; to talk, to eat, to live, etc. In order to speak and write in sentences we have to conjugate our verbs; I talk, you eat, he lives. We do the same in Spanish. Let’s get started!

5 Every verb has 2 parts: Hablar= habl- Practicar= practic- Estudiar= estudi- Trabajar= trabaj- Cocinar= cocin- STEM+ENDING Mirar= mir- Escuchar= escuch- Saltar= salt- Presentar= present- Comprar= compr- + AR

6 To form the present tense: STEM + Verb ending -o-as-a-amos-áis-an

11 Present-tense verbs in Spanish can have several English equivalents. Each simple expression in Spanish may convey three different ideas in English: Estudio español. (yo) I study Spanish.
