The verb saber is irregular in its yo form. saber vs. conocer saber its conjugation sé sabes sabe sabemos sabéis saben The verb saber is irregular in its yo form.

Saber = to know a fact, to know data Sabemos que Rodolfo y Luisa son estudiantes. ¿Sabes los días de la semana? Yo sé el número de teléfono de Consuelo.

Saber + infinitive* = to know how (to do something) Yo sé esquiar. ¿Sabes cocinar? Los niños no saben nadar. *Conocer is never followed by an infinitive.

Saber is often followed by a question word.* Sabemos quién es Plácido Domingo. ¿Sabes dónde está la oficina de correos? No sé cuándo sale el tren para Tegucigalpa. *Conocer is never followed by a question word.

Saber is also used when we know something from memory (de memoria) Abuela Marta sabe el Himno Nacional Mexicano. ¡Mexicanos, al grito de guerra . . . !

Conocer = to know a person, or to be acquainted or thoroughly familiar with a person or thing

She knows (is familiar with) the song. Yo no conozco a María. I don't know (am not acquainted with) Maria. Alberto y Alfredo conocen Madrid. Alberto and Alfredo know (are acquainted with) Madrid. Ella conoce la canción. She knows (is familiar with) the song.

Notice the contrast between saber and conocer in the following sentences. Yo sé quién es Plácido Domingo, pero no conozco al señor Domingo personalmente. I know who Plácido Domingo is, but I don’t know Mr. Domingo personally. Sabemos dónde está Tegucigalpa, pero no conocemos la ciudad. We know where Tegucigalpa is, but we aren’t familiar with the city. Julia sabe que Rigoberta Menchú recibió el premio Nobel, pero no conoce sus obras. Julia knows that Rigoberta Menchú received the Nobel prize, but she isn’t acquainted with her works.

To express knowledge or ignorance of a subject or learning discipline, use saber or conocer, depending upon the context. Juan no sabe nada de inglés. Juan doesn't know any English. Él sabe matemáticas. He knows mathematics. Juan conoce la literatura española. Juan is familiar with Spanish literature.
