Preterite of Regular Verbs
Preterite Verbs Preterite means “past tense” Preterite verbs deal with “completed past action” The ending tells who did the action.
-AR Preterite Endings Just as -o, -as, -a, -amos, -áis, -an tell you that the action takes place in the present, -é, -aste, -ó, -amos, asteis, -aron, tell you that the action took place in the past.

Preterite ¡OJO! Verbs that have a stem change in the present tense do not have a stem change in the preterite.
Preterite JUGAR (u : ue) Juego con mi perro todas las noches……….pero ayer no jugué con mi perro.
The preterite of verbs ending in –car –gar and -zar (p. 356)
Preterite Remember that in the preterite, verbs whose infinitive ends in -gar , -car or -zar have a spelling change in the yo form. All of their other preterite forms are regular.
Preterite (-gar) pagar yo pagué jugar yo jugué
Preterite sacar yo saqué buscar yo busqué tocar yo toqué
Preterite empezar yo empecé almorzar yo almorcé
