Empezamos con LA HORA From 2:00 to 12:00, you use the phrase Son las __(the number)_. Ejemplos: It is 3:00. Son las tres. It is 11:00. Son las once. Practicamos #1: 4:00, 9:00, 2:00, 12:00

Empezamos con LA HORA For 1:00, the phrase is different. You must use Es la una. “on the dot” = “en punto” Es la una en punto. Son las siete en punto.

Minutos (1-30) To say that it is 4:05, you start with 4:00 and add (y) 5 minutes. Son las cuatro y cinco. To say that it is 9:25, you start with 9:00 and add 25 minutes. Son las nueve y veinticinco.

Minutos irregulares To say that it is 15 minutes (a quarter) after the hour, you use the word cuarto, not quince. It is 3:15 = Son las tres y cuarto. Minutos 31-59 When the minutes are between 31-59, you will have to do some math. In Spanish, you will round up to next hour and subtract the remaining minutes until that hour. “At…” To say that something happens “at” a certain time, “a las” or “a la” will be used instead of “son las” and “es la” Ejemplos: At 8:00am I arrive at school. A las ocho de la mañana yo llego a la escuela. The party starts at 1:15pm. La fiesta empieza a la una y cuarto de la tarde.

“¿A qué hora? ¿A qué hora es la clase de español? (9:15 am) Es a las nueve y cuarto de la manana. ¿A qué hora es el almuerzo? (12:50 pm) Es a la una y menos diez de la tarde. ¿A qué hora es el baile? (7:30 pm) Es a las siete y media de la noche.
