How do we form them? The following verbs are stem-changers in the preterite. Only –ir verbs that stem-changed in the present can stem-change in the preterite. They take the same endings as regular –er/-ir verbs: -í, -iste, ió, -imos, -ieron The stem-change occurs ONLY in the 3rd person singular and plural form of the verb. In other words: only change él/ella/usted ellos/ellas/ustedes
