use the different tenses of the base verb e.g. llover (ue) – to rain llueve, esta lloviendo, va a llover, llovera llovio, estaba lloviendo, llovia

Manana…tomorrow Va a + infin : va a llover, va a estar nublado, va a hacer calor etc Estara nublado (for those with ‘esta’) Habra niebla (for those with ‘hay’) Hara calor (for those with ‘hace’)

Ayer/el ano pasado/el sabado pasado… (past tense single event = Preterite) Llovio - it rained Hizo calor - it was hot (for weather with ‘hace’) > (for a short spell) Hubo tormenta –it was stormy (for weather with ‘hay’) (for a short spell) (N.b. Use IMPERFECT for lengthier stretches)

When I was a young girl… Cuando era nina…… (‘permanent’/lengthy state in the past > imperfect tense) Llovia - it used to rain Hacia calor - it used to be hot (for weather with ‘hace’) (and ‘it was hot’ – next slide) Habia tormenta –it used to be stormy (for weather with ‘hay’) (and ‘it was stormy’- next slide)
