The Preterite It is one of the two past tenses in Spanish. This tense is used to speak about actions completed in the past. They are often –ed words in English: walked, talked, listened There are three steps to conjugating in the preterite: Cut off the –ar, -er, -ir ending Find the appropriate ending Put the beginning and ending together.

The Endings -AR -ER -IR -é -amos -aste -ó -aron -í -imos -iste -ió -ieron -í -imos -iste -ió -ieron

Exeptions -AR and –ER boot verbs in the present tense do not change in the preterite tense. VER: is a regular verb in the preterite but it has no accent marks. -car, -gar, -zar verbs have a spelling change in the YO form Buscar c-qu  Busqué Pagar g-gu  pagué Almorzar z-c  almorcé
