Part 2: En La Clase

 La carpeta = The folder  El libro= The book  El cuaderno= The notebook  La hoja de papel = A piece of paper  El bolígrafo = The pen  El pupitre= The desk (you can also say el ecritorio, it’s more common)  El lápiz= The pencil

 El estudiante (masculine) = The student  La estudiante (feminine) = The student  El profesor (masculine) = The teacher  La profesora (feminine) = The teacher

 Nouns have a gender; they are either masculine or feminine.  Most nouns that end with –o are masculine, most nouns that end with –a are feminine.  El = Masculine; La = Feminine  El and La both mean “the”  Nouns that end in –e or a consonant must be learned as masculine or feminine.  In other words, you will be taught which –e words and words that end with a consonant are masculine or feminine.

 Veinte = 20  Treinta = 30  Cuarenta = 40  Cincuenta = 50  Sesenta = 60  Setenta = 70  Ochenta = 80  Noventa = 90  Cien = 100

 16-19: Dieciséis, Diecisiete, Dieciocho, Diecinueve  21-29: Veintiuno, Veintidos, etc..  31-39: Trienta y uno, Trienta y dos, etc..  41-49: Cuarenta y uno, etc…  Same patterns with 51-99

 Monday = lunes  Tuesday = martes  Wednesday = miércoles  Thursday = jueves  Friday = viernes  Saturday = sábado  Sunday = domingo *In Spanish, the days of the week are lowercase UNLESS it starts at the beginning of a sentence.

 January = enero  February = febrero  March = marzo  April = abril  May = mayo  June = junio  July = julio  August = agosto  September = septiembre  October = octubre  November = noviembre  December = diciembre *Months of the year are also lowercase unless at the beginning of a sentence

 El día = The day  La semana = The week  El mes = The month  El año = The years  La fecha = the date  Hoy = Today  Mañana = Tomorrow  Ayer= Yesterday  Anteayer= The day before yesterday  In Spanish, the date is day-month-year:  (E.g. 25 de agosto or 25/8/2016)  The first day of the month, use “el primero.” For the other days, use the numbers.

 ¿Qué día es hoy? = What day is today?  Hoy es jueves. Mañana es viernes. = Today is Thursday. Tomorrow is Friday.  ¿Cuántos días hay en el mes de agosto? = How many days are there in August?  Hay trienta y un días. = There are 31 days.
