California Standards Test (CST)

Every student in California takes a test to see if they have learned the necessary knowledge and skills for their grade level. We take the California Standards Test, or

Purpose The purpose of the CST is to measure how well students are learning the knowledge and skills identified in Californias content standards. The content standards describe what students in each grade should know and be able to do in English–language arts, mathematics, and science (science for 5 th Grade only).

The goal of every school in Calfornia is to reach a school wide score of 800 ! When we add up your individual scores, we get a school score called an API.

Jack Franscioni API Last year our score was Thats only 3 points away from 800! This year our goal is

To achieve this goal, we want EVERY student to raise their score by at least one proficiency level!

Family Tips Make sure your child eats a healthy breakfast before coming to school OR bring your child early enough to eat in the cafeteria.

Family Tips Try to limit the time your child spends watching TV and/or playing video games on the nights prior to test taking.

Family Tips Ensure that your child is present during testing Children generally perform better when taking tests with their classmates rather than at a make-up time.

Family Tips Get your child to school on time the day of the test.

Family Tips Remind your child to listen carefully to the instructions from the teacher and to read the directions and each question carefully.

Family Tips Encourage your child to stay focused on the test, even if other students finish early.

Family Tips Remind your child the test is important. Encourage him/her to do his/her best.
