¡Mucho Gusto!

 There are many ways to greet each other in any Latin community.  Most communities greet each other with a quick embrace and a hand shake  If you are greeting a member of the opposite sex (or if you are a girl and are greeting another girl) you would normally give them a short kiss (“peck”) on the cheek.

¡Hola!  There are a few different ways in Spanish to say hi. We have already begun to study a few of them.  Buenos días  Hola  ¿Qué tal?  Buenas tardes Señora Torres  Buenas noches Señor Guerrero

¡Hola!  How do you respond?  Hola  (Hola, qué tal, buenos días, buenas tardes, buenas Noches)  Buenos días  (Hola, qué tal, buenos días, buenas tardes, buenas Noches)

How are you?  There are few ways of asking how someone is. If you are talking to a friend or a peer you would say:  ¿Cómo estás? (How are you?)  If you are asking how someone is in a formal setting you would say:  ¿Cómo está usted? (How are you?)

How are you?  How to say how you are doing.  Estoy bien (I’m doing well)  Estoy muy bien (I’m doing very well)  Estoy bien; ¿y tú (usted)? (I’m doing well; and you?)

How are you?  Negative responses:  Así así (so so)  No estoy bien (I’m not doing well)  No muy bien (I’m not doing very well)  Mal (Bad)

What is your name?  To ask somebody’s name you say:  ¿Cómo te llamas? (familiar)  ¿Cómo se llama? (formal)  To ask someone else’s name you say:  ¿Cómo se llama él/ella?

What is your name?  To say my name is you say:  Me llamo… (I call myself…)  Me nombre es… (My name is…)  To say what someone else’s name is you say:  Él se llama… (His name is)  Ella se llama… (Her name is.)

What is your name?  To say what someone else’s name is you say:  Él se llama…(His name is)  Ella se llama…(Her name is)

¡Hola!  ¡Hola! Me nombre es Esparanza.  Hi, my name is Esparanza.  ¿Cómo te llamas?  What’s your name?  Mucho gusto.  Nice to meet you.  ¿Cómo se llama su mejor amigo?  What is your best friend’s name?

¡Hola!  Él/Ella se llama…  His/her name is…  Hasta luego.  See you later.

How old are you?  To ask someone how old they are you say:  ¿Cuántos años tienes? (How old are you? (familiar))  ¿Cuántos años tiene usted? (How old are you? (formal))  ¿Cuántos años tiene él/ella? (How old is he/she?)

How old are you?  To say how old you are you say:  Tengo 28 (dieciocho) años. (I am 28 years old)  Él tiene 15 (quince) años. (He is 15 years old)  Ella tiene 12 (doce) años. (She is 12 years old)
