2 XII Encuentro del Consejo Latinoamericano y del Caribe de Registro Civil, Identidad y Estadísticas Vitales Asunción, Paraguay 6 al 9 de Octubre de 2015  Plan of action for people, planet, prosperity, peace and partnership  Seeks to strengthen universal peace in larger freedom  Eradicating poverty in all its forms and dimensions, including extreme poverty, is the greatest global challenge and an indispensable requirement for sustainable development  The 17 Sustainable Development Goals and 169 targets demonstrate the scale and ambition of this new universal Agenda  The Goals and targets will stimulate action over the next 15 years in areas of critical importance for humanity and the planet The 2030 Development Agenda

12 XII Encuentro del Consejo Latinoamericano y del Caribe de Registro Civil, Identidad y Estadísticas Vitales Asunción, Paraguay 6 al 9 de Octubre de 2015 Goals and targets  There are 19 targets under this goal  Strengthen domestic resource mobilization, including through international support to developing countries, to improve domestic capacity for tax and other revenue collection  Promote the development, transfer, dissemination and diffusion of environmentally sound technologies to developing countries on favorable terms, including on concessional and preferential terms, as mutually agreed  Promote a universal, rules-based, open, non- discriminatory and equitable multilateral trading system under the World Trade Organization, including through the conclusion of negotiations under its Doha Development Agenda

25 XII Encuentro del Consejo Latinoamericano y del Caribe de Registro Civil, Identidad y Estadísticas Vitales Asunción, Paraguay 6 al 9 de Octubre de 2015 Concluding remarks  Universal consensus on the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, Goals and Targets Vital statistics is a core component for monitoring the implementation of the agenda and assessment of the progress As per the United Nations recommendations, regular, reliable and accurate small area vital statistics system is dependent of the fully functioning civil registration and reporting of the occurrence of all vital events The role of civil registration goes well beyond being the source of vital statistics as it is crucial to ensuring legal identity and protection of human rights

26 XII Encuentro del Consejo Latinoamericano y del Caribe de Registro Civil, Identidad y Estadísticas Vitales Asunción, Paraguay 6 al 9 de Octubre de 2015 Human Rights Civil Registration Vital Statistics 2030 Agenda Good and efficient governing and achieving all SD goals, especially related to public health, has to be based on informed decisions and accurate statistics Ensuring basic human right is crucial for the normal functioning and governing of societies worldwide The exercise of many human rights depends directly on the existence of the functioning civil registration system Civil registration is, without doubt, the best source for accurate and reliable vital statistics
