2 Teaching Skills When we teach skills, we break the skill down into smaller units and reinforce when the skill is demonstrated. We use repetition- practicing new skills over and over.

6 How Can We Use Technology to Teach These Skills? DO IT YOURSELF (DIY) !!! Video Modeling & Role Playing – Video yourself “acting” out a target skill – Watch the video with your child – Review the video and practice the skill – Watch your child and note if he/she starts engaging in the skill – If not, repeat!

11 Behavior Management Behavior Based Techniques Priming First_Then Visual Aids/Schedules* Reinforcement/Token Systems How Can We Use Technology? DIY- Use notepad application on your iPhone or iPad to write out a schedule for your child to follow, with times and reinforcing activities built in. Visual Schedule Applications are available. You can custom make the schedule and have the individual check off the completed items.

13 Reinforcement/Token Systems With the use of a timer, we are reminded to provide an individual with praise, tokens, and other tangible items. DIY- Use the timer option on your phone to remind you. Application- Interval Minder will buzz and automatically reset so that you do not need to do it yourself.

15 Communication We know that behavior, inappropriate or appropriate, is how we communicate a want or need. Some individuals do not have the ability to verbalize what they want or need, and so resort to inappropriate behaviors to get their needs met. In the past, PECS and Voice Output boxes were utilized. How can technology help us?
