1 Las matemáticas en el juego. Mathematics in games

2  The word mathematics comes from the Greek word «Manthanein» meaning to learn.  A lot of people find mathematics difficult to understand and at the same time think of it as impractical and totally useless. But in truth mathematics is useful, it’s everywhere around us, it’s connected with life and art. It’s food for our brains.  La palabra matemática viene de Grecia «Manthanein».  Mucha gente dice que las matemáticas son difíciles de entender y al mismo tiempo de practicar. La verdad de las matemáticas es que son útiles porque sirven para todo. Están conectadas con la vida y el arte. Son comida para el cerebro.

3  La mejor manera para aprender matemáticas es, sin duda, usar juegos y rompecabezas para entretener a los alumnos. Podrían así entender su importancia.  Las matemáticas son muy importantes para la población pero esta las considera muy aburridas.  The best way to learn mathematics is, undoubtedly, using games and riddles to ensure that students could understand its importance.  Mathematics, for the biggest part of the world population is considered boring because if it’s not applied to real problems, it is difficult to understand.

4  Las matemáticas se encuentran por todas partes: en economía, comunicación, protección nacional de seguridad, medicina…todo empezó con simples juegos de matemáticas.  La conexión entre las matemáticas y los juegos no parece evidente porque las matemáticas se consideran muy aburridas y lejos de actividades divertidas.  Mathematics is found everywhere, in economics, communication, data protection, national security, medicine, … and yet it all started with simple mathematical games!  The connection between mathematics and games doesn’t seem obvious because mathematics is often considered boring and far away from funny activities.

5 Jugar con un bloque (bloques de lego )  Jugando con los bloques de lego, los niños aprenden que la estructura es más estable si los bloques están a menor altura indirectamente aprenden como funciona la gravedad; ellos aprenden a ordenar objetos por grupos y, haciendo diferentes modelos, aprenden a usar su imaginación. Playing with blocks (Lego blocks and wooden bricks)  By playing with blocks the child learns that the structure is more stable if bigger blocks are on the bottom, indirectly they learn about how gravity works, learn to sort objects and by making different models they learn to use their imagination…

6 El cubo de rubic  El cubo de rubic es tridimensional; el juego fue inventado por Ernő Rubik.  El cubo tiene 43 trillones de diferentes formas para moverlo y siempre puedes resolverlo en 20 movimientos.  El record del mundo fue resolver el cubo en 5 segundos. Rubic cube  The Rubic cube is a three- dimensional logic game invented by Ernő Rubik.  The cube can have around 43 trillion different settings and it can always be solved in 20 moves.  The world record for solving a normal cube is 5 seconds.

7 Ajedrez  El juego del ajedrez es uno de los juegos más antiguos del mundo.  Es un juego de mesa estratégico, de dos jugadores con 64 piezas, usando figuras.  Este juego requiere mucha concentración, estrategia y táctica. Chess  The game of chess is one of the oldest known games.  It is a strategic board game played by two players on the 64- field chessboard, using figures.  This game requires from the player a lot of concentration, strategic thinking and tactics.

8 Sum Track  Hoy en día, podemos usar ordenadores para jugar con las matemáticas en la escuela y también en casa, por ejemplo, con el juego llamado Sum Track.  Sum Track es un juego que ayuda a los estudiantes con las sumas y las restas.  El objetivo del juego es elegir el camino correcto para simplificar un número hasta llegar a cero. Sum Track  Nowadays, we can use computers to play mathematical games at school and also at home, for example Sum Track.  Sum Track is a game that helps students with adding and subtracting.  The purpose of the game is to find the correct road from the starting points to get zero.

9 Sudoku  El Sudoku es el juego de números más conocido en el mundo; consiste en poner una serie de números del 1 al 9 en una cuadrícula para formar una palabra.  Cada cuadrícula tiene una única solución.  El número mínimo de casillas vacías al principio es de 17. En cada casilla y en cada columna el jugador tiene que poner un número entre 1 y 9. Tenemos que completar todos los espacios. Sudoku  A game of Sudoku is a well- known numerical crossword where digits from 1 to 9 have to be put.  Each crossword has only one solution.  The minimum number of discovered fields at the start is 17. In each row and column the player has to put the digit from 1-9. All the squares must be full.

10  Sin las matemáticas no habría ordenadores, no podríamos jugar a los videojuegos.  También google está basado en el conocimiento de las matemáticas.  Con la presentación nosotros queríamos dejarles claro que también hay una manera divertida para entender las matemáticas. Y nosotros esperamos que la entiendan y la practiquen.  Without mathematics there would be no computers, no play stations and no video games.  Even the google web searcher is based on mathematical knowledge.  With this presentation we wanted to point out that there is also a fun way to learn mathematics. And we hope we have succeeded.
