4 Ser vs estar Ser (relatively permanent) You do not change your residence, profession, or basic characteristics from day to day.

5 Ser vs estar Estar is used to tell where the subject is now or how the subject feels to describe location and feelings that may change.

7 Ser vs estar Estar (temporary - subject to change) You do change your location and your feelings from day to day.

13 LA FICHA PARA ESTAR con’t : Present Progressive = What’s happening right now! Estar (present tense) + gerund “-ing” (-ando/-iendo) Ej. Yo estoy hablando. Ella está comiendo. Nosotros estamos leyendo. Past Progressive = What was happening! Estar (imperfect tense) + gerund “-ing” (-ando/-iendo) Ej. Yo estaba hablando. Ella estaba comiendo. Nosotros estábamos leyendo.

14 LA FICHA PARA ESTAR con’t : Estar (any tense) + participio (participle): -AR USE –ADO (HABLADO) -ER/-IR USE –IDO (PREFERIDO) *watch for irregular participles! *participle must agree with the subject it’s describing! The past participle can be used with estar to describe conditions that are the result of a previous action or a temporary state. Ej. El pintor está sentado. Las paredes estaban pintadas.
