Gender O However, it can be difficult to guess the gender of the noun if the noun doesn’t end with an o or an a. O One way to know is to know the meaning of the word. If the word means male or female people or animals, then the gender of the noun will match that.

Rule 1: “A” Rule O If a noun ends in “a” it is usually feminine. O Example: La chica, la mesa, la silla
