*Other verbs that change e to i are: medir – to measure pedir – to ask for preferir – prefer referir – to tell reñir – to argue repetir – to repeat sentir – to feel vestir – to dress Yo pedí Tú pediste Él pidió Nosotros pedimos Vosotros pedisteis Ellos pidieron Ejemplo: Ella pidió permiso para salir.

*Other verbs that change o to u are: morir – to die Él, Ella, Ud Murió Ellos, Ellas, Uds Murieron podrir – to rot Él,Ella, Ud Pudrió Ellos, Ellas, Uds. Pudrieron *OJO* * Verbs that end in –ar or –er that are stem-changing don’t change the stem vowel on the preterite tense. Por ejemplo: pensar – Él pensó mucho. volver – Uds. volvieron anoche.

7 Verbs that change i to y in the Preterite
* -er and –ir verbs whose stems end in a vowel change the endings of the preterite tense from –ió to –yó in the third-person singular and from –ieron to –yeron in the third-person plural. The endings for all other persons take an accent on the i. 16 The verbs DAR, SER, & IR *The verbs dar, ser, and ir are also irregular in the preterite. Dar takes the endings of regular –er, -ir verbs, but without a written accent in the first- and third person singular forms. Ser and ir have the same forms in the preterite.
