The Spanish Present Tense is generally used, as in English, to describe actions that are happening right now. I eat – Como However, it is also used in several cases that are unusual, at least at first. Some other instances when it is used are: Habitual actions Actions that take place often, such as a job, breakfast, etc, can be expressed with the Spanish present. Trabajo en una oficina de correos – I work in a post office Hypothisizing If Juan cooks, I eat - Si cocina Juan, como Timelessness, Universal truth/Ideas Two plus two is four-Dos mas dos es cuatro. Man is mortal - El hombre es mortal. Continuing Past Events This is used for events that started in the past, but continue today. These sentences are constructed with hace + time + que + present tense verb We’ve been riding this train for 15 hours. - Hace quince horas que andamos este tren.

Conjugation is making a verb work with the subject (I, you, us, him, her, etc.). While there are thousands of Spanish verbs, all but a few fall under one of three ways of conjugation, depending on the verb ending. Three verbs will be used to teach the different rules of conjugation. All but a few fit under one of these examples.

With all regular verb conjugations, you just need to drop the two letter ending, and conjugate it depending on that ending. Almost all verbs fall under tthose three patterns, but not all do. The next slide will show you several notable irregular verbs, conjugated in the present tense.
