3 Formation of the past subjunctive 1. Take the 3 rd person plural of the Preterite 2. Drop “on” 3. Add Same endings for all verbs!!! 5 Understanding the subjunctive tenses  If the main clause is in the Present Indicative and the verb in the subordinate clause refers to an action in the present or in the future, use the Present Subjunctive. Action time line: Present + que + Present or Future Es bueno que vayas a la escuela. It is good that you go to school.  If the main clause is in the Present Indicative and the verb in the subordinate clause refers to an action in the past, use the Present Perfect Subjunctive. Action time line: Present + que + past Es bueno que hayas ido a la escuela. It is good that you went to school.  If the main clause is in the Past Indicative and the verb in the subordinate clause refers to an action in the occurring at that time or later, use the Past Subjunctive. Action time line: Past + que + occurring at that time or later Era bueno que fueras a la escuela. It was good that you went to school.
