2.) be familiar with a thing 3.) a person *CONOCER is followed by a personal “A” when the direct object is a person or a pet.

Conocer + “a” + persona When conocer is followed by a person, you need to include the “personal a” after conocer. Los estudiantes conocen a la Señora Van Voris.

Preterite – found out, learned
SABER – To know Preterite – found out, learned Sí, supe ayer que empezó tarde. Yes, I found out that it began late. Imperfect – knew ¿Sabías que el concierto empezó tarde? Did you know that the concert began late?

CONOCER – To know Preterite – met (somebody) for the first time
Luis la conoció el año pasado. Luis met her last year. Imperfect – knew (somebody) Pedro conocía muy bien a esa actriz. Pedro knew that actress very well.
