Ruinas Veracruz are the oldest intact and preserved ruins in Leon, Nicaragua.

One landmark within the ruins is the Chapel of Veracruz. It is in the southwest portion of Sutiava Square, built in the 1500s.

It is what is left following assault in 1927.

Part of what damaged Ruinas Veracruz was a volcanic explosion in 1835.

The people living in the area needed to re-locate their place of worship to a new church, called San Juan Bautista.

The ruins had been attempted to be restored in 1975-1980s, but was eventually left. At least one temple in the ruins was used for Indian rituals.
