Adverbial clauses are those that come after subordinate conjunctions that act like adverbs. Some examples are so that, in order that, when, until, as long as, and after. They tell how, when, why, or under what circumstances. I plan to attend college when I graduate. Adverbial clause conjunction 1

** There must be a change of subject Ejemplos: La alcadesa ha desarrollado un plan para que los jóvenes puedan encontrar empleo. The mayor has developed a plan so that young people can find employment. ** If no change of subject, leave out que and use infinitive. La alcadesa ha desarrollado un plan para ayudar a los jóvenes. 3

** If the adverbial clause refers to a future action, use the subjunctive. Ejemplo: Ella buscará un trabajo de verano despues de que terminen las clases. She will look for a summer job after classes end. ** If the clasue refers to a habitual or completed action use the indicative. Cuando abandonan sus estudios, los jóvenes muchas veces se meten en problemas. 5

Aunque is also a part of the conjunction category When. 1) With the indicative it means even though. Refers to a truth or something you know happened. Aunque te graduaste, igual tienes que esforzarte para consequir trabajo. 2) With the subjunctive it means although/even if. Refers to possible truths or something that may or may not have happened. Aunque te gradues, igual tienes que esforzarte para conseguir trabajo. 6

Cuando Elena ___ (terminar) su tarea, irá a mi casa. Los miembros de las pandillas vienen a la fiesta tan pronto como ellos ___ (hablar) sobre sus días en el barrio. A menos que ella ___ (proteger) su nombre, ella perderá su dignidad. Ellos compraron una casa nueva sin ___ (pagar) mucho más dinero. 7
