7 Some crazy verbs! (3) These verbs have some quite interesting conjugations and they are useful: Decir – to say/tell dije, dijiste, dijo, dijimos, dijisteis, dijeron Dar – to give di, diste, dio, dimos, disteis, dieron Ver – to see vi, viste, vio, vimos, visteis, vieron

8 When do we use it? These are the uses of the preterite: Specific times in the past Ayer, fui a la playa. At a fixed point of time in the past Vimos la película anoche. A definite number of actions Comieron diez helados. A specific length of time Abrí las ventanas hace doce horas.

9 How to indicate it: All of the following phrases indicate the past: Ayer – yesterday Anoche – last night Esta mañana – this morning Esta tarde – this afternoon La semana pasada – last week El mes pasado – last month El año pasado – last year Hace... -... Ago Ayer por la mañana/tarde – yesterday morning/afternoon Anteayer – the day before yesterday Hace unos días – a few days ago Hoy - today
