4 Can you guess…?  Here are some irregular preterite forms. Can you guess what the present verb form might be?  yo tuve  él estuvo  Nosotros pudimos  Ellos hicieron

5 Cómo te salió? ¿Cómo te salió?  tuve > tengo > tener (to have)  estuvo > está > estar (to be)  pudimos > podemos> poder (can)  Hicieron> hacen> hacer (to do)  Some irregular preterite forms resemble their present forms, while others do not.

6 Bases  How do you learn the irregulars?  Learn them by base forms first. Start with these five:  estar > estuv-  tener > tuv-  poder > pud-  Hacer> hic –(ella/Ud. Él- hizo)

7 Okay, now what?  estar > estuv- –yo estuve –tú estuviste –él estuvo –nosotros estuvimos –ellos estuvieron  Hey, no accent marks!
