EL SUBJUNTIVO
2
¿Qué es el subjuntivo? The subjunctive is a “mode” used to talk about things that might not exist. English doesn’t use this mode except with the verb “TO BE”. EX: If I were a millionaire, I would buy you a fur coat. (It’s not likely I will be, nor will I be buying fur.)
3
4
Vamos a practicar… Escribe el subjuntivo de los verbos. Caminar (ellos) Vender (yo) Escribir (Uds.) Poner (él) Hacer (tú) Tener (ella) Dormir (yo) Pensar (Paquita) Caminen Venda Escriban Ponga Hagas Tenga Duerma piense
5
Verbos de zapato –AR, -ER (no cambiamos ni nosotros ni vosotros) Contar Recomendar Pensar Encontrar Sentar Acostar Contemos, contéis Recomendemos, recomendéis Pensemos, penséis Econtremos, encontréis Sentemos, sentéis Acostemos, acostéis
6
8
¡Practiquemos! Practicar (tú) Llegar (él) Comenzar (la clase) Pagar (yo) Buscar (nosotros) Organizar (ella) Empezar (Ud.) Almorzar (nosotros) Practiques Llegue Comience Pague Busquemos Organice Empiece almorcemos

¿Cuándo usamos el subjuntivo en español? To help identify a subjunctive sentence follow these tips… 2 subjects in the sentence, and they must be different. They are connected by “que” (that) There is a W.E.D.D.I.N.G. condition
11
¿W.E.D.D.I.N.G? Not that kind. WEDDING is an ACRONYM. Each letter stands for a situation that uses subjunctive. Remembering the acronym conditions will help you decide if you need a subjunctive.
12
Turn and tell a partner why these sentences both take a verb in the subjuntivo.
13
14
D Doubt Nosotros dudamos que llueva hoy. No creo que tengas mi dinero. No pienso que vaya nevar mañana.
15
16
I Impersonal (expressions) Es bueno que… Es malo que… Es estúpido que… Es probable que … Es posible que… Es improbable que… * ¡OJO! “es” is the first subject in the sentence so it will fit the 2 subject requirements.
17
(OH ALLAH!) Ojalá que no haya prueba mañana.
19
God Willing and Perhaps (Ojalá & Tal vez) Automatically force the subjunctive because God’s Will and perhaps automatically open us up to possibility. (Nobody can accurately predict what God wants right?)
