3 I call myself The more common way to ask and tell names in Spanish is with the verb llamarse. ¿Cómo te llamas (tú)? = How do you call yourself? ¿Cómo se llama (Ud.)? = How do you call yourself? (Yo) Me llamo Juan. = I call myself Juan.

4 HOWEVER…Ser is necessary to ask and state first name, last name, and nickname specifically. –¿Cuál es tu/su nombre de pila? What is your first name? –Mi nombre de pila es Francisco. My first name is Francis. –¿ Cuál es tu/su apellido? What is your last name? –Mi apellido es Santana. My last name is Santana. –¿ Cuál es tu/su apodo? What is your nickname? –Mi apodo es Paco. 9 The reflexive verb llamarse When a verb infinitive has “se” attached to the end, it is called a reflexive verb. The verb “llamar” means “to call.” The reflexive verb “llamarse” means “to call oneself.”

10 Conjugating a reflexive verb When we conjugate a reflexive verb, we must include the reflexive pronouns before the verb that match up with the subject. Instead of “oneself” they match up to reflect the subject to indicate: myself, yourself, himself, herself, ourselves, yourselves, and themselves.
