(to)  To designate the recipient of something  This letter is for María. (for)  To say what the intended purpose of an action is  She works to pay the bills. Dijeron que no hay vuelos para Madrid hoy. They said there are no flights to Madrid today. - ¿Para dónde va este tren? Where does this train go? - Ese tren va para Córdoba. 7 Other Uses of PARA To express that an ability is surprising in a person with certain traits: Para un niño escribe muy bien. He writes very well for a child. Para un americano entiende bastante de fútbol. For an American, he knows a lot about soccer. For an American, he knows a lot about soccer. To introduce someone’s opinion/perspective: Para mi padre, eso es simplemente una excusa. As far as my father is concerned, that’s just an excuse. Para ella, tu actitud es inaceptable. She finds your attitude inacceptable To express that someone works for (is employed by) someone. To express that someone works for (is employed by) someone. Trabajo para mi cuñado. I paid 300 pesos for both of them. - ¿Cúanto me darías por este reloj? How much would you give me for this watch? - No daría nada por él. Está muy viejo. I wouldn’t give you anything for it.
