2 Pronouns What are pronouns? They are words that replace nouns. They are often used to avoid repetition.

3 Mary is my sister. Mary is really nice. Mary is also rich. Mary is going to buy me an iPod for Christmas. Too many Marys, ¿verdad? So we use the subject pronoun She instead.

4 Subject pronouns (pronombres personales) The Spanish subject pronouns are: YONOSOTROS TÚVOSOTROS ÉLELLOS ELLAELLAS USTEDUSTEDES

5 Direct Object Pronouns (pronombres de complemento directo) Now we are going to talk about DIRECT OBJECT PRONOUNS. These, too, are used to avoid repetition. I want the book. She wants the book too. I want the book. She wants it too. Quiero el libro. Ella lo quiere también.

6 Can you figure out the rule? Yo veo a Pedro. Yo lo veo. Yo veo a Maria. Yo la veo Yo veo a María y Pedro. Yo los veo. Yo veo a María y Ana. Yo las veo. Did you notice that in these sentences the direct object pronoun goes in front of the verb?

8 Can you replace the direct object with a direct object pronoun? 1. Busco el libro. Lo busco. 2. Buscamos la pluma. La buscamos. 3. ¿Tienes los videos? ¿Los tienes? 4. Pedro sabe las respuestas. Pedro las sabe.

Notice that direct objects can be people or things.

11 FYI… Me, Te, Nos, & Os are also direct object pronouns. Tú me ves. Los niños nos quieren. Yo te quiero.
