3 Facts about Direct Objects: 1. Receive the action of the verb 2. Answer Who? Or What? About the verb 3. Can be a Noun or Pronoun Ejemplos: Noun: Quiero la camisa azul. [I want the blue shirt.] Pronoun: La quiero. [I want it. PRONOUN] *What is wanted? DO = the shirt

4 Placement of a direct object pronoun Rule #1: Before the verb in a form (changed) Quiero comprar zapatos negros. Los quiero comprar hoy. Rule #2: Attached to end of an infinitive [ar/er/ir] Quiero comprar zapatos negros. Quiero comprarlos hoy.

5 2 verb rule: If you have 2 verbs next to each other in a sentence, Verb 1 changes, Verb 2 stays in the infinitive [ar, er, ir ending]. Quiero comprar los zapatos. Quiero comprar los zapatos. Verb 1 = Quiero (changed for YO) Verb 2 = comprar (stays an infinitive) Preferimos comer la pizza. Necesitas leer el libro.

6 Ejemplos: Find the direct objects. Ask the questions…who/what receives the action of the verb. 1. Tengo mucha tarea. what do I have? 2. No quieres comprar el vestido. what dont you want to buy? 3. La maestra cierra la puerta. what is shut? 4. Los estudiantes empiezan los exámenes. what are the students beginning? 5. Necesito el libro. What is needed?

7 Ejemplos: Find the direct objects (underlined words). Then, write them in prounoun form under the arrows. 1. Tengo mucha tarea. 2. No quieres comprar el vestido. 3. La maestra cierra la puerta. 4. Los estudiantes empiezan los exámenes. 5. Necesito el libro.

8 Take out the NOUN and replace it with a PRONOUN! Ejemplo: No tengo el dinero. No lo tengo. 1. Ellos no llevan gorros. 2. Necesito los jeans. 3. ¿Quieres un helado? 4. Quiero la chaqueta amarilla. 5. Tengo las camisas.

9 Take out the noun and replace it with a PRONOUN! 1. Ellos no los llevan. 2. Los necesito. 3. ¿Lo quieres? 4. La quiero. 5. Las tengo.

10 Más práctica: me, te, nos 1. I understand you. 2. Do you understand me? 3. Our parents dont understand us.
