2 Direct Objects Diagram each part of these English sentences:
I want that skirt. I bought some shoes. What is the subject, the verb, the direct object?

3 Direct Objects A direct object is the person or thing in the sentence that the subject is having an effect on. To find the direct object, ask the question: “What? or Who?”

4 Direct Object Pronouns
Direct object pronouns take the place of the direct object in a sentence. For example:

5 Direct Object Pronouns
Instead of saying, “I want that skirt,” you can say, “I want it.” The word “it” takes the place of the word “skirt.”

6 Direct Object Pronouns (English)
us you all you all, them me you him, her, it

7 Direct Object Pronouns (Spanish)
me (me) te (you) lo (him or it) la (her or it) nos (us) os (you all inf.) los (them, you all) las (them {girls}, you all)

8 Placement of Direct Object Pronouns
Direct Object Pronouns: me, te, lo, la, nos, os, los and las are placed either before a conjugated verb or attached to the end of an infinitive(a non-conjugated verb) or a participle(-ing or –ed word) .

9 Before the Conjugated Verb:
¿Probaste el pescado? Sí, lo probé. ¿Bebió el hombre la bebida? No, el hombre no la bebió.

10 Before the Conjugated Verb
Remember that when the direct object is a person or group of people, you use the personal a before it. ¿Ves mucho a tus amigos? Sí, los veo todos los días.

11 Before the Conjugated Verb
If there is a no before the verb, the pronoun goes between no and the verb. Antonio comió las uvas. Las comió en el desayuno. Yo no las comí.

12 Before the verb or attached to a participle:
¿Estás comiendo el helado? Lo estoy comiendo ahora. Attached to a participle: ¿ Estás comiendo el helado? Estoy comiéndolo ahora.

13 Before the verb or attached to an infinitive:
¿Quieres comer el helado? No, no lo quiero comer. Attached to an infinitive: No, no quiero comerlo.
