Tener frío– to feel cold Tener calor– to feel hot Tener miedo– to be afraid Tener suerte– to be lucky Tener razón– to be right; correct Tener celos– to be jealous Tener sueño– to be sleepy Use mucho/mucha with these expressions to say “very” or “a lot”

Tenemos mucha suerte. Tenemos mucho sueño. Tienes prisa. Tienen celos. Juan tiene mucha hambre. ¿Tienes calor? ¿Tienes frío? ¿Tengo razón? Tenemos mucho miedo.

13 Tener ganas de + infinitive
Use this to say someone feels like doing something. Conjugate tener to fit the subject. Do not conjugate the infinitive. Tengo ganas de estudiar. I feel like studying. Tenemos ganas de jugar al fútbol. We feel like playing soccer.

14 I feel like singing. Tengo ganas de cantar. She feels like dancing in the auditorium. Ella tiene ganas de bailar en el auditorio. They feel like reading at the library. Tienen ganas de leer a la biblioteca. We feel like talking at the stadium. Tenemos ganas de hablar al estadio. You feel like working. Tienes ganas de trabajar.

I have to go to class. Tengo que ir a clase. DON’T conjugate this! Doesn’t translate Conjugate to fit subject

Tengo que dibujar el viernes próximo. She has to listen to music. Ella tiene que escuchar música. We have to do homework. Tenemos que hacer la tarea. They have to search the Internet. Tienen que navegar por Internet. We don’t have to run today. No tenemos que correr hoy.

Tengo ganas de pasear porque no tengo que estudiar hoy. We are so hungry, but we aren’t thirsty. Tenemos mucha hambre, pero no tenemos sed. (Use mucha, not mucho, with hambre.) They are in a big hurry and they don’t feel like swimming. Tienen mucha prisa y no tienen ganas de nadar. You have to swim because you are athletic. Tienes que nadar porque eres atlético.
