Ser vs. Estar Even though, both verbs mean To Be they are used for completely different reasons. Ser is used for attributes that aren’t easily changed (long lasting) and Estar is used for attributes that change or can change quickly. In order to remember when to use each one use the acronyms N.O.C.T. or P.E.P. Whenever you speak of a situation see if it applies to a certain category.
