1 Asking Questions in Spanish a. YES / NO QUESTIONS. Just like in English there are two types of questions: b. INFORMATION QUESTIONS. Different from English you have to have an upside question mark (¿) at the beginning of both types of questions. How do you differentiate a yes/no question from an information type of question?

2 Asking Yes/ No Questions María está en el gimnasio. These are the simplest questions you can ask. The answer will be either YES or No and some additional information can be given. Look at the example: ¿Está María en el gimnasio? Sí. María está en el gimnasio. No. María está en la cafetería.

3 Asking Information Questions ¿Cómo? = How ¿Cuál es / Cuáles son? = Which one / ones ¿Por qué? = Why ¿Qué? = What ¿Quién es / Quiénes son? = Who is / are ¿Cómo estás? How are you? ¿Cómo te llamas? What’s your name? ¿Cuál es tu libro? Which one is your book? ¿Por qué estás nervioso? Porque tengo un exámen. Why are you nervous? Because I have an exam. ¿Qué bebes? Bebo agua. What are you drinking? I drink water. ¿Quién come pizza? Who eats pizza? Question word = Meaning Examples: ¿Quienes son los maestros de Espa- ñol? Who are the Spanish teachers?

Where do you go after school? Voy a casa de mi amiga. I go to my friend’s house. Question word = Meaning Examples: ¿De dónde? = from where? ¿De dónde eres? Where are you from? Soy de Kentucky. I am from Kentucky.
