3 AP Spanish Literature and Culture Course Description: Sample University Courses Credit: Junior / Senior Year: LAS 207 Latin American Civilization SPN 313 Intro to Lit (Spain) SPN 314 Intro to Lit (Spanish Am) SPN 413 Texts and Context: Spain SPN 414 Texts and Context: Spanish America The purpose of this course is to cover the equivalent of a third-year college course in Peninsular and Latin American literature and culture. The course is designed to introduce students to the formal study of a representative body of Peninsular and Latin American literary texts.

4 Portrait of a Successful Student in AP Spanish Literature and Culture Disciplined: Discipline themselves to hear, read, speak and write exclusively in Spanish in the AP class as well as beyond the classroom walls. Participation: Highly motivated to participate in class. Students are able to initiate, maintain, and close a conversation. Students are able to formulate questions in Spanish to seek clarification or additional information. Reading: Enjoy reading a variety of authentic works: literary prose, essays, poems, dramatic works, dialogues cartoons, advertisements, book reviews, and journalistic materials, including editorials. Writing and Grammar : Write cohesive and coherent essays (analytical or persuasive essay in reaction to a text or on a personal, academic, cultural or social issue) exclusively in the Spanish language. Demonstrate exceptional control of grammar and syntax. Note: Per CollegeBoard requirement, THIS COURSE IS GIVEN IN SPANISH! Students are expected to immerse themselves in the language beyond the classroom walls!

6 La tarea del verano: Español AP: Literatura y Cultura La razón principal de hacer tareas durante el verano es seguir practicando de una manera u otra el uso del idioma español por manera del análisis literario durante las vacaciones. No se aceptarán trabajos después del 10 de agosto. La tarea para este verano incluye 3 partes: A) Bases Teóricas - 50 pts B) Tarjetas de Términos Literarios – 100 pts C) Lectura de “El Delantal Blanco” y las preguntas de comprensión - 50 pts En total valdrá (valer) un 20% de la nota del primer cuartrimestre de la clase de AP. Favor de no esperar hasta al fin del verano para hacer la tarea. Recuerda que es necesario entregar todo el primer día de clases.
