2  You can use both the subjunctive and the indicative in time clauses introduced by “cuando”. The choice of the mood depends on when the events being described occur.

3 INDICATIVE  Use the indicative to refer to past or present actions or events. Most of the time, the main verb is in the present indicative or the preterite. SUBJUNCTIVE  Use the subjunctive to refer to future events or actions that have not yet occurred and are considered uncertain. Most of the time, the main verb is in the future tense or expresses future with ir + a + infinitive

4 EL FUTURO  I will eat as soon as I get home.  I am going to eat as soon as I get home. VERBO + VERBO  I need to eat as soon as I get home.  I should eat as soon as I get home.  I want to eat as soon as I get home.  I have to eat as soon as I get home.  I am going to eat as soon as I get home.  I plan to eat as soon as I get home.

5  Cuando clause: (TIME) Main clause: ▪ Indicative  present indicative or preterite ▪ Subjunctive  future indicative or “ir” + a + inf.

6 INDICATIVE  Cuando mis padres viajan, siempre sacan fotos.  La camarera cambió las sábanas cuando limpió el cuarto. SUBJUNTIVE  Cuando mis padres viajen, van a sacar fotos.  La camarera cambiará las sábanas cuando limpie el cuarto.

7  Aunque= although  De modo/de manera que= in such a way that  después de que= after  luego que= as soon as  hasta que= until  en cuanto= as soon as  mientras que= while/for as long as  tan pronto como= as soon as  In order to use the subjunctive with these conjunctions, you must have a future reference in the main clause.

12  I clean the house as soon as I get home.  My friend will travel as soon as she earns money.  When I am 30, I will have 2 children.  After I graduate, my parents will pay for college.
