4 Indirect Objects The indirect object is the person who receives the direct object or the person who benefits from the action of the verb. Use the preposition “a” before an indirect object. Not all sentences have an indirect object. There must be a direct object in a sentence before there can be an indirect object.

5 Indirect Object EJ: D.O. I.O. El peluquero le cortó el pelo a la señora. The hairdress cut the woman’s hair. What did the hairdresser cut?  the hair For whom?  The woman

6 Indirect Object Pronouns An I.O.P can take the place of the indirect object noun or be used together with it. (** Note, this is different from Direct Object Pronouns where the pronoun replaces the noun and is never used together with it**) Un banquero le prestó dinero a Juan.  A banker lent Juan money. Un banquero le prestó dinero.  A banker lent him money.

7 Indirect Object Pronouns I.O.P. follow the same placement rules as reflexive verbs and direct object pronouns. You already know the indirect object pronouns; you have used them with Gustar!

8 Indirect Object Pronouns Me : meNos : us Te : youOs : you Le : him/herLes : you/them

9 Indirect Objects I.O. are often used with verbs for giving or telling something to someone. Ej: Rose le da el correo a Lola. Rosa gives Lola the mail. Elena te dice la historia a ti. Elena tells you the story.

10 A ti te toca: 1.Siempre _____ (nos/les) decimos a nuestros profesores que no queremos tarea, pero siempre ______ (nos/le) dan mucha. 2. Las cocineras de la cafetería pueden preparar _________ (te/les) la comida sin sal si _______ (me/les) dices que la necesitas así.
