3 What is PhotoVoice? PhotoVoice is defined as “processes by which people can identify, represent, and enhance their community through a specific photographic technique”

7 Goals and Objectives  Use photos as a “non-traditional” method to collect data on community health  Participate in how health care providers and community organizations can support the most true needs of the community  Share photographs and provide context so that they become meaningful to an outsider  Blend local and professional knowledge of health and wellness

11 Analyzing Photographs  What does this picture mean to you?  What do you think is the underlying message of the picture?  What are the problems and why do you think they are happening?  What do you think can be done about them?  Who would you want to share this picture with?  Do you see similar barriers/celebrations in your community?

15 “Some kids in the projects have to deal with bad things every morning they wake up, and it would be best to change that. Because a lot of kids have talent, but they’re afraid to become what they could become because they live in the projects…You’re just scared to live here. You don’t know when your life will be taken away.” -Seventh-grade PhotoVoice participant “Algunos niños que viven en viviendas de bajos recursos tienen que lidiar con cosas malas todas las mañanas al despertar, seria mejor si eso cambiara. Porque muchos niños tienen talento, pero tienen miedo a lo que puedan llegar a convertirse porque viven en viviendas de bajos recursos… existe el miedo por vivir aquí. 17 “The bottle in the water shows the significance of alcohol in people’s everyday life. The running stream represents the constant struggle of peer pressure to drink.
