4 Prepositions: What is a preposition? For example:
A preposition is a word that indicates location. For example: The dog jumped over the log. In this sentence, “OVER” indicates location of where the dog jumped. The cat walked under the table. In this sentence, “UNDER” indicates the location of where the cat walked. Can you think of other prepositions?

5 Prepositions in Spanish:
Prepositions in Spanish indicate location and MUST be followed by a noun. For example: El cuaderno está debajo de la calculadora. The notebook is under the calculator. What part of speech is el cuaderno? What part of speech is está? What part of speech is debajo de? What part of speech is la calculadora?

6 List of Prepositions: Debajo de la / del = Underneath / Under
Encima de la / del = On top of Al lado de la / del = Next to / Beside Detrás de la / del = Behind Delante de la / del = In front of *When the preposition de is followed by the masculine definite article el, THE CONTRACTION del must be used. For example: La papelera está al lado del escritorio.
