4 3 How do we make it? -ar = -ando -er/-ir = -iendo You start with the verb Estar: That is the I am, you are, he is… Add the verb, but remove the ending Add the matching gerund (fancy word for ing) estoyestamos estásestáis estáestán +

6 5 In English you would never say: “He walking.” or “She working.” You say: He’s walking. or He is walking. She’s working. or She is working. ESTAR + -ando or -iendo El Presente Progresivo We do the same in Spanish: Never leave out the verb ESTAR

9 8 ¿En inglés o en español? In English you can say: I am working right now or I am working tomorrow *** In Spanish you cannot do this. The progressive in Spanish is ONLY used to describe an action that is in process at the moment we are talking (ahora mismo). *** In Spanish we can use the expression IR + A + Infinitive to refer to the near future (tomorrow). Estoy trabajando ahora mismo. Voy a trabajar mañana.

13 12 Verbos irregulares… 1.Leer 2.Traer 3.Pedir 4.Decir 5.Dormir 6.Servir Leyendo trayendo pidiendo diciendo durmiendo sirviendo When an er/ir verb ending is next to another vowel it changes to yendo to make a nicer sound.

14 13 Let’s practice I am cleaning the bathroom. They are cutting the grass. What are you doing? I am getting to know the down town. Estoy limpiando el baño. Están cortando el césped. ¿Qué estás haciendo? Estoy conociendo el centro.

15 14 What if we use a direct object pronouns Remember: 2 verbs 2 options: 1.Before both verbs -Yo lo estoy limpiando 2. Attached to the end of the second verb -Yo estoy limpiándolo **When attached to the end of a gerund (ing) you must add an accent. Remember if you double mess you have to triple mess.
