2 In Spanish there are two verbs that can be translated as “to be”. These two verbs are “ser” and “estar”. First of all, let’s see how to conjugate them : Estar (To be) Yo estoy Tú estás Él/ella está Nosotros/as estamos Vosotros/as estáis Ellos/ellas están Ser (To be) Yo soy Tú eres Él/ella es Nosotros/as somos Vosotros/as sois Ellos/ellas son

7 A few adjectives have different meanings depending upon which form of “to be” you use. Generally, if you use Ser, the adjective is a characteristic of the person or thing you are describing. If you use Estar, it is a description of a mood or appearance.

8 Él es aburrido Hi is boring Soy nervioso I’m nervous person Ella es guapa She is pretty Yo estoy aburrido I’m a boring Estoy nervioso I’m feel nervous Está guapa She looks pretty For example You see? Is not as complicated as you think. Es muy fácil! Now try to use “ser” and “estar” in different situations and using different adjectives.
