La semana pasada hablamos un poco sobre El Salvador y las pandillas. Que piensas tú sobre eso? Por que piensas que vamos a mirar la película Voces Inocentes? Explica.

A statement taken from the trailer to the film. It helps to answer questions about the nature/content of the film. i.e. es una película histórica, de guerra, cuenta una historia real. Tendrá aspectos negativos – lo difícil, lo espantoso de vivir en tiempos de guerra, pero también aspectos positivos – la fuerza, la esperanza, la resistencia de los niños y la gente en general ante situaciones imposibles. “Es una historia real de lo que se pierde en tiempos de guerra y de lo que se descubre en el espíritu del niño.”

9 3a Mira la bandera. ¿Cómo es?
La bandera consiste de tres franjas horizontales iguales, azules las extremas y blanca la central. Las franjas azules simbolizan el Océano Pacífico y el Océano Atlántico que bañan las costas del oeste y el este de Centroamérica. La franja blanca simboliza la paz o la tierra.

The idea would be to do either whole class or pair oral work using the following TL questions: ¿Qué colores tiene la bandera? ¿En qué continente está? ¿Con qué países limita? ¿Cuántos habitantes hay/tiene? ¿Cuál es la capital? ¿Qué idiomas hablan? ¿Cuál es la expectativa de vida para los hombres/ para las mujeres? ¿Cómo se llama la moneda de este país? For students who have done quite a bit of Q & A work on other countries, perhaps they could be involved in generating the questions rather than just responding to them. In this activity students need to use first their existing vocabulary, their ability to spot cognates and make educated guesses to divide these 18 verbs into positive and negative aspects of childhood. La madre de Chava le envía a los para evitar el de morir en la It may be useful for students (particularly if, as I suggest for this film, the whole film is not viewed, but instead certain sections of the film) to read a short English synopsis (supplied as separate word document) as below: Chava is 11 years old and the eldest son of Kella, his mother. His father left when the war started. His family lives in a town that is currently heavily fought over between the Salvadoran army and the guerrillas. His mother makes a living for the family by sewing, and Chava sells the clothes in shops. When he is not in school, Chava helps out by announcing stations for a bus driver. When the film begins, Chava is nearing the age when the military will recruit him. He witnesses the army recruiting twelve year old children from his school. One day his uncle Beto, who has joined the guerrillas, comes to visit them. Beto wants to take Chava with him so the military can't recruit him, but Kella is against it. Beto gives a radio to Chava and tells him how to listen to the guerrillas' banned radio station. Chava unknowingly plays a song banned by the Salvadoran Army in front of the soldiers, but the town's priest saves him by playing the same song over the church's loudspeaker to focus the soldier's attention away from Chava. Chava falls in love with a girl in his class named Cristina Maria. The guerrillas attack the army from the school building and the school is closed. Kella and her family move out of town to her mother's house in a safer area. One of the guerrillas tells Chava of the army's next recruitment day, and Chava and his friends warn the entire village to hide their children. Chava decides to visit Cristina Maria but only finds the bombed-out shell of her house and he realises she is dead. He and his friends decide to join the guerrillas, but they are followed and the guerrilla camp is attacked by the army. Chava and his friends are taken to be shot near a river, but at the last moment Chava is saved by a guerrilla attack. He runs home to find his mother in the burnt out ruins of their house. 16 Oscar Torres, guionista (script writer)……..
nació en la aldea rural de Cuscatazingo, El Salvador, en Se vió atrapado por una brutal guerra civil. La historia de la película Voces Inocentes cuenta la historia real de su supervivencia durante el conflicto, y su dramática huída , solo, a los Estados Unidos en 1986, a los catorce años. Contra todas las probabilidades se reunió ahí con su madre y dos hermanos. Torres empezó el programa de Estudios Latinoamericanos en la Universidad en Berkeley,pero decidió abandonar los estudios para convertirse en un actor. Después del éxito de la peli Voces Inocentes sigue de guionista, cineasta y productor de películas.
