1 El futuro What is the future tense? When would you use it?
There are TWO types of future tense. Examples: I AM GOING to open my book. I WILL OPEN my book. *The first option is easier than the second.

2 El futuro Future Tense #1: “Ir + a” I AM GOING to…..
Comes from the present tense of “ir.” voy vamos vas va van

3 El futuro I am going to eat. Yo voy a comer.
You are going to open the book. Tú vas a abrir el libro. Why do we leave the second verb in the infinitive?

4 El futuro Try some on your own. I am going to leave tomorrow.
We are going to study for the test. They are going to eat pizza for dinner. She is going to wake up early. You are going to learn Spanish.

5 El futuro Answers: Voy a salir mañana.
Vamos a estudiar para el examen. Van a comer pizza para la cena. Ella va a despertarse temprano. Vas a aprender español.

6 El futuro Future Tense #2: apply a chart “I will…..”
The future tense functions JUST like the conditional, that we learned last week, because you keep the WHOLE verb and just ADD on the ending! é emos ás á án

I will go to the store. Yo iré a la tienda. She will eat pizza. Ella comerá pizza. We will study more. Nosotros estudiaremos más. é emos ás á án

8 El futuro Try some on your own. I will go tomorrow.
We will study for the test. They will eat pizza for dinner. She will wake up early. You will learn Spanish.

9 El futuro Answers: Iré mañana. Estudiaremos para el examen.
Comerán pizza para la cena. Ella se despertará temprano. Aprenderás español.

12 El futuro Try some irregulars on your own. She will leave tomorrow.
They will make a cake. I will have a party. We will want to study. You will tell her the announcement.

Ellos harán una torta. Yo tendré una fiesta. Querremos estudiar. Le dirás el anuncio.

Do you understand the THREE grammar tenses we have learned this chapter? -Tú commands -Conditional -Future How are they all DIFFERENT? DO NOT get them confused!!

15 El futuro In-class composition
You will write approximately ¾ to a full page telling me what YOU WILL DO this weekend. You should use 10 verbs in the FUTURE tense– 5 with the “ir + a” formation and 5 using the chart. CIRCLE your “ir + a” verbs and UNDERLINE those that use the chart. This is due at the end of class OR first thing on Monday.
