In all versions they were not allowed to use their hands.  The object of the game would be to keep the ball in play and get it through a stone hoop.  This hoop was very small and bones were often broken in the game due to the weight of the ball.  The ‘prizes’ varied. Here are some ends to the game:  Winners get all the possessions of the losers.  Losers are sacrificed to the gods.  Winners are sacrificed to the gods.
