You use these pronouns to replace the indirect object and shorten your sentence. Example: Yo tiré el balón a ti. Yo te tiré el balón. Ellos dieron el coche a nosotros. Ellos nos dieron el coche.

Le and Les Le = him, her, you (formal) Les – them, you (plural) Carlos prepara la cena para Ana. Carlos le prepara la cena. Maria compró el regalo para su novio. Maria le compró el regalo.

Ana trae los libros a Maria y Carla. Ana les trae los libros. Yo preparé el postre para ellos. Yo les preparé el postre. Because le and les have more than one meaning, you might want to leave the indirect object in the sentence.

Ana trae los libros a Maria y Carla. Ana les trae los libros a Maria y Carla. This will not shorten up your sentences but it will clarify who it is you are talking about. Sometimes that is more important than shortening up your sentences!!
