2 WHAT IS A CONJUNCTION? Conjunctions are words that join parts of sentences or even entire sentences. They are connecting words such as “and”, “or/either,” “nor/neither,” “but”.

3 Y = AND Example: Marc Anthony y Enrique Iglesias cantan en español.

4 Y=AND When “y” goes before a word that begins with “i” or “hi”, then it changes to an “e” to differentiate the sound Hablo español e inglés=I speak Spanish and English

5 O= OR, EITHER Example: Normalmente, duermo ocho o nueve horas.

6 O=OR, EITHER When “o” goes before a word that begins with “o” or “ho”, then it changes to an “u” to differentiate the sound ¿Vas a Nueva York u Orlando?=Are you going to New York or Orlando?

7 NI= NOR, NEITHER Example”: No queremos ni pizza ni tamales. Note: yes, this is a double negative! In Spanish, unlike English, double negatives are acceptable.

8 PERO= BUT Example: José pierde mucho, pero yo gano frecuentamente.
