Raynger® Series 3i Plus Termómetro infrarrojos portátil The Raytek Raynger 3i Plus infrared thermometer is a new generation of portable products designed in accordance with industry standards to meet process performance requirements in hot environments. 1

It’s simpler, due to a clear user interface, a dual laser, which marks the diameter of the measurement spot, and an easy data transfer either via USB or via Bluetooth. It’s stronger, due to the instrument’s capability to withstand a 1 m drop, the device capable of withstanding harsh operating conditions in the field. The 3i Plus instrument is also very strong in its core measurement performance with its fast exposure time, its wide temperature range, and excellent accuracy. With a powerful Lithium-ion battery, the instrument ensures a continuous operation for 24 h. And the 3iPlus is safer, due to a superior optical resolution which guarantees small measurement spots even at long distances. The red nose protection of the instruments alerts the operator for ambient conditions that are too hot. To aim at the measurement object correctly all instruments are equipped with a laser. An optional scope enhances the sighting capabilities of the 3i Plus. Two spectral models, 1 µm and 1.6 µm, cover a temperature range from 400°C to 3000°C. With 250:1 the 3i Plus series provides a very high optical resolution in combination with outstanding accuracy. 3

This technology avoids damaging to the instrument exposure from hot targets. The protection is achieved by two measures: the red nose at the front of the instrument is made of a high temperature resistant plastics The nose comes with a temperature sensitive sensor inside forcing an LCD color change and a warning sound in case of a target that is too hot. The following slide shows you a little video with the instrument in front of a hot blackbody source and demonstrates an alarm initiated by the red nose. 7

The battery is rechargeable and ensures continuous operation for 24 h. You can use a spare battery as a second battery to have one battery in the unit while the other one is charging. To exchange the battery follow these steps: Unscrew the battery door Remove the door bolt Slide the battery along the rail Unscrew the battery door Slide the battery along the rail 10

USB cable PC For charging the battery, there are two possible approaches: The first possibility is to charge the battery inside the instrument’s housing by using the USB Port Adapter. For the second or spare battery, you can charge the battery outside the instrument’s housing with the delivered USB to DC jack. An indicator on the battery will show a red light for “charging” and a green light for “charge is complete”. Please note that the instrument can be powered when connecting the USB cable to the PC but there is no charging since many USB ports have not enough power capability! 11

The red dot sighting is provided for all units with a scope and behaves as following described. Let’s assume that you are sighting a very bright target through the scope. Due to the bright surface of the target, the red laser points are difficult to see. For these cases you can apply a filter inside the scope. Turn the knob on top of the scope until the brightness of the target is down to a convenient level. A red dot is now superimposed on to the filtered view to ensure accurate marking of the area which is actually being measuring. The display is clearly arranged with information to the actual measurement status. The biggest label shows the current measured temperature which is supplemented by the temperatures for the maximum and the minimum. On the left side of the display you can find the status for the instrument’s parameters such as the emissivity factor, the transmissivity, and the setting for the background temperature compensation. Additionally, on the display there are symbols to indicate the current operating status of the instrument, such as a warning for the red nose, the Bluetooth status, the battery level status, the current lock mode for the trigger button and the indications for the high and low alarms. Each pushing of the F2 key will change the meaning for the F1 and F3 keys. On the first menu level, F1 sets the submenu for the emissivity setting, and F3 would launch the submenu for toggling the LCD backlight. Pushing the F2 key again will call the second level within the menu structure allowing you to call predefined profiles via the F1 key and to record trends via the F3 key. The next level enables the minimum/maximum temperatures by pushing the F1 key and the average/difference temperatures by pushing the F3 key. On the fourth level you can access the lock/unlock function for the trigger button via F1 and you can toggle the laser on and off via the F3 button. The next menu level allows you to enter the setup menu by pushing the F1 key and to review or delete temperature recordings via the F3 button. On the last level you may toggle between Celsius and Fahrenheit via the F1 key, and to switch the red dot scope to on or off via F3. On the next slide you will see a little video to demonstrate exemplary the setting of the emissivity value. 14

The Basic mode records single temperature points with its specific parameters such as emissivity and a date/time stamp. Maximum 1000 recordings are allowed. The Trend mode saves temperatures within a certain time frame and provides the corresponding minimum and maximum temperatures. That mode comprises maximum 10 trend lines with 360 points for each line. The Profile mode supports the saving of temperatures in a structured matrix. A maximum of 50 profiles are allowed. Each profile allows 300 points in maximum and is characterized by individual settings for emissivity, alarms, and so on. Profiles need to be configured under the PC software before they can be uploaded to the instrument. 16

The software is compatible with Windows XP, Windows 7 and Windows 8 and needs a USB 2.0 port on the computer. The installation is very easy. From the CD, launch the executing file to install the software on a computer. Follow the installation wizard’s instructions on the screen. Important to know that while installing the software, the USB driver for the instrument is installed automatically! Please note, to install DataTemp 3i Plus software you must log in with administrator rights! To establish communication between the instrument and the PC software, follow the steps below: Connect the instrument to the PC via USB Open the <File> menu Choose appropriate COM Port 17
