¡El singular y el plural!

1) If the word ends in a vowel, (a e i o u) add “-s” hermana → hermanas día → días abuelo → abuelos mi → mis

2) If the word ends in a consonant, add “-es” mes → meses mujer → mujeres ciudad → ciudades universidad → universidades

3) If the word ends in a –z, change the z to c, and add “-es” lápiz → lápices feliz → felices

4) If the final syllable has an accent mark, drop the accent mark when you make the word plural. televisión → televisiones francés → franceses alemán → alemanes emoción → emociones discusión → discusiones * Words ending in -sión or –ción have an accent mark in the singular form.

5) Only drop the accent mark if it’s on the final syllable. tía → tías día → días lápiz → lápices Why does the plural form still contain an accent mark in these examples?

Special Case The singular word joven (young person) doesn’t contain an accent mark, but its plural form jóvenes (young people) does. joven → jóvenes
