1 ¿Qué te gusta hacer? What do you like to do? Discussing what you and others like to do after school or in your free time using regular verbs in the present tense.

2 -AR Verbs In Spanish, there are three classes – verb families (or conjugations) of verbs: those that end in –AR, those that end in –ER, and those that end in – IR. This is important because the conjugation determines the endings you put on the verbs.

3 Los Verbos: Verbs are “action words” = to do something These 3 verb families in Spanish: -AR, -ER, -IR (are based on the endings of the infinitives of the verbs) The following are example verb infinitives: verb form that is found in the dictionary  Ex: -AR = Bailar = to dance  Ex: -ER = Comer = to eat  EX: -IR = Escribir = to write

4 -AR Verbs Let’s look at an example, the verb DESCANSAR, which means “to rest.” It ends in –AR, so it is included in this class of the AR verb family.

11 Talking about what you and others like to do: GUSTA + VERB INFINITIVE ¿Qué te gusta hacer en tu tiempo libre?  Me gusta pintar, tocar la guitarra, caminar en el parque y descansar en mi tiempo libre. ¿Qué no te gusta hacer?  No me gusta estudiar ni trabajar. ¿A Manuel le gusta cantar?  No, no le gusta cantar, pero le gusta jugar al baloncesto después de clases.

12 Talking about what you and others like to do: ¿Qué les gusta hacer a tus amigos contigo?  Nos gusta hablar por teléfono y montar en bicicleta. ¿Qué no les gusta hacer a Uds.?  No nos gusta patinar. ¿Qué les gusta hacer a tus amigos?  A mis amigos les gusta pasar el rato al centro comercial.  ¿A Quién le gusta bailar en la clase? A Marta le gusta bailar.
