2 How to make the present progressive There are two parts to the present progressive: –Estar (conjugated to say who is doing something) –The present participle (the – ando / -iendo form of the verb)

3 How to make the present progressive Present participle is formed by dropping the ending and adding: – ando for –ar verbs –Iendo for –er and –ir verbs For example: –I am talking. Yo estoy hablando.

4 With reflexive verbs... We have to remember the reflexive pronoun. You can put the reflexive pronoun before the conjugated form of estar – OR– attached to the present participle (adding an accent over the a of –ando or e of –iendo).

5 With reflexive verbs... I am brushing my teeth. –Yo me estoy cepillando los dientes. –OR– –Yo estoy cepillándome los dientes.

6 You try some! Ellos / maquillarse Yo / ponerse / la ropa. Tú / secarse / con una toalla. Nosotros / afeitarse / todos los días. Maria / peinarse / en el espejo.

7 You try some! Ellos se están maquillando. –Ellos están maquillándose. Yo me estoy poniendo la ropa. –Yo estoy poniéndome la ropa. Tú te estás secando con una toalla. –Tú estás secándote con una toalla.

8 You try some! Nosotros nos estamos afeitando todos los días. –Nosotros estamos afeitándonos todos los días. Maria se está peinando en el espejo. –Maria está peinándose en el espejo.

9 There are a couple of things to note: -ir verbs with stem-changes are the same in the present participle as they are in the preterite. –Dormir  durmiendo –Pedir  pidiendo –Servir  sirviendo

10 There are a couple of things to note: The double vowel verbs are the same in the present progressive as they are in the preterite. –Leer  leyendo –Creer  creyendo –Oír  oyendo
