2 ¿CÓMO TE LLAMAS? ¿Cómo te llamas? ( what is your name?) (informal) Answers to this question are Yo soy…. (I am…) Yo me llamo… (My name is…) Mi nombres es… (My name is…)

3 ¿CÓMO SE LLAMA? Note: In this questions the verb ser is conjugated to the third person él, ella (He and she). We also conjugate this verb to the “you formal” form (Usted). It is used to ask for someone’s name formally. ¿Cómo se llama Usted? (Formal you) Yo me llamo…(My name is…)(You still answer with yo) Mi nombre es....(My name is….) ¿Cómo se llama él? (Third person) Él se llama… (His name is….) ¿Cómo se llama ella? (Third person) Ella se llama…. (Her name is…)

5 SEÑOR (SR.) As well as in English, in Spanish there are different titles to call people formally. Señor (Sr.) means Mister (Mr.) ¿Cómo se llama el señor? (What is the mister’s name?) El señor se llama… (the mister calls himself….) El señor Martínez es muy honesto (Mr. Martínez is very honest.)

6 SEÑORA (SRA.) As well as in English, in Spanish there are different titles to call people formally. Señora (Sra.) means Lady and/or Mistress (Mrs.) ¿Cómo se llama la señora? (What is the lady’s name?) La señora se llama… (the lady calls herself….) La señora Martínez es muy bonita. (Mrs. Martínez is very pretty.)

7 SEÑORITA (SRITA.) As well as in English, in Spanish there are different titles to call people formally. Señorita (Srita.) means Miss (Ms.) ¿Cómo se llama la señorita? (What is the miss’s name?) La señorita se llama… (the miss calls herself….) La señorita Martínez es muy bonita. (Ms. Martínez is very pretty.)

9 ¿CÓMO ESTÁS? This is the informal way to ask “How are you doing?”. People use it among friends, brothers, sisters, cousings, etc ¿Cómo estás? (How are you doing?) Estoy bien (I’m doing fine) Estoy mal(I’m bad – I’m having a bad day) Estoy así así(I’m so so) ¿Cómo estás John?(How are you doing John?) Estoy muy bien, gracias. (I’m doing very good, thank you.)

10 ¿CÓMO ESTÁ? UD. This is a more formal way to ask “How are you doing?”. People use it with mothers, fathers, bosses, elders, people they don’t know. ¿Cómo está? ¿Cómo está Usted?(How are you doing?) Estoy bien (I’m doing fine) Estoy mal (I’m bad – I’m having a bad day) Estoy así así(I’m so so)
